About Us

About Us

Hello! Welcome to our little corner of travel and adventure.

We are Jaisy and Daniel, and our little crew, Big S and Lil S. We are a family from Canada who love to travel. We’re not full time travellers – we sneak in our adventures between school, sports, and working full time. Our trips are generally between 1 and 2 weeks, and our style is authentic and affordable travel. We hope our collection of adventures will inspire other families to take on the world and all it has to offer. We aim to make trip planning relevant and relatable, less of a daunting prospect and more of an exciting (and maybe obsessive) one.

Why travel?

Big S will often crack open a book, and will not resurface for hours. You can call his name a dozen times to no response, lost as he is in his new world and new adventures.

Getting off a plane, a train, a boat, or a long car ride is like that. It is a portal to new places to see, cultures to experience, wonders to explore. Travel teaches you about the world, and it teaches you about yourself and the people you travel with. By traveling, you write your own stories. It is both a satisfying and addictive experience.

Travel style

We have a DIY approach to planning, and are detailed itinerary planners. Our trips typically do hit up the big cities and most popular tourist attractions, but we prefer quieter locales where we can take our time and soak up the magic of wherever we are. We mix hustling, and, more recently with kids, plenty of time to roam and relax (and time to adapt when something doesn’t go as planned!) Photography plays a big part of our trip planning, and timing and vantage points factor into when and where we go. We are chasers of sunrises and sunsets.

Travel philosophy

Our mantra is there are no good memories and bad memories when it comes to travel, only experiences. Therefore, you will find us writing about our dune buggy breaking down on Milos, Greece, or ants eating the lining of underwear in Egypt, or taking two hours to hail a taxi on a busy throughfare in Guangzhou, China. We hope to bring you an honest and salient account of our adventures, because this is what travel is and what lifelong memories are made of.

Our story

At the helm are Jaisy and Daniel – or mom and dad, respectively – joined by Big S and Lil S to complete our crew. We currently live just outside Toronto, Canada.

Jaisy comes from a family of travel-lovers and has been blogging about travel since her first solo trip to Peru at 18. One of her favourite conversation starters is talking trip ideas with friends and family, while leaving reviews for hotels and attractions online. At that time, she had a private blog she always treated as more of a journal. Eventually, some 15 years later, a lightbulb went off, and she got the idea to start a “real” travel blog. She is a physician by day. In her professional role she enjoys community medicine and teaching, and hates paperwork. In her free time, she loves writing, reading fantasy/sci-fi/historical fiction/fanfiction, and playing racquet sports.

She is constantly planning for a trip or dreaming of an adventure.

Daniel works in the corporate world, and is constantly budgeting and planning on how to pay for it.

He is also the designated driver while Jaisy mis-navigates them on a not infrequent basis. In his previous life, Daniel worked in the TV and entertainment industry, creating and editing content. Photography is his passion, and back in the day he could frequently be found gleefully freezing in the middle of the night or the dead of winter for a good picture. Jaisy and Daniel met during a photoshoot on a Toronto beach. They got to talking on the streetcar ride back home, and the rest, they say, is history the beginning.

Jaisy and Daniel had a destination wedding in Italy. Then, from Brazil to Tanzania, from St. Lucia to Greece, they haven’t stopped traveling together since.

The family that travels together…

Our greatest adventure was becoming lucky parents to Big S, and a few years later, Lil S. Big S is curious, determined, and competitive. Lil S is daring, focused, and hilariously expressive.

Having kids has taught us many things, which has translated to how we travel. It has taught us to find joy in the simple things, such as playing a game or Uno or running wild through a field of grass. It has taught us to approach new experiences in the same tenacious way they pick up each new skill. The kids also teach us plenty of patience, like how to stay calm after finding out Lil S had signed her name on our nice dining chair in black Sharpie. Having kids has also made us more eco-conscious, to live more sustainably every day and make conscious efforts to save the world for our kids.

Have we had to change the way we travel with kids? Absolutely. Do we have bad days on the road where the kids whine and fight like cats? Absolutely. But is it worth every moment? Absolutely. Nothing has been richer than exploring the world together and making lifelong memories. We hope they will always be in awe of this incredible planet, and know is a place worth protecting.
